July 12, 2026–Global Virtual Conference: More than a conference, Malala Day 2026: From One Voice to Millions became a global call to action as educators, diplomats, youth leaders, entrepreneurs, and advocates from across continents gathered to champion education, opportunity, and empowerment for girls worldwide.
Hosted by the International Internship University (IIU) and the Mahila Udyami Foundation, the event celebrated the enduring legacy of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai while focusing attention on one of the most pressing challenges of our time: ensuring every girl has access to quality education and the opportunity to thrive.
Opening the conference, Dr. Virginia Rivera, who is the CEO of International Internship University, Chairperson and Co-Founder of Mahila Udyami Foundation, and Vice President of Peeyush Group of Companies, and the current President of World Education Policy, reminded participants that education is not a privilege but a fundamental human right.
“We spoke about access to quality education. We spoke about inclusion. We spoke about creating environments where girls feel safe, secure, and empowered to use their voices. The greatest way we can honor Malala’s legacy is not simply by celebrating her voice, but by ensuring millions of girls can discover and use their own.”
Dr. Rivera emphasized that real progress requires collective action from governments, institutions, businesses, educators, and communities.
The event was expertly moderated by Linda Pereira, from the UK residing in Portugal, Chair of the Global Advisory Board of Mahila Udyami Foundation, whose dynamic leadership and engaging presence transformed a three-hour conference into what many participants described as an unforgettable global conversation.
“Linda’s energy, professionalism, and ability to connect people across cultures and continents made three hours feel like three minutes,” said several attendees following the event.
A particularly powerful moment came from the message by Adv. Peeyush Pandit, Founder of International Internship University and Chairman of Peeyush Group of Companies and Trust, whose remarks reinforced the belief that education is the foundation upon which stronger communities, stronger economies, and peaceful nations are built as he mentioned:
“As Indians, we take pride in the values enshrined in the Constitution of India. Our Constitution, through its Preamble, upholds the ideals of Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity, while Article 21A recognizes education as a fundamental right for every child.”
The conference featured distinguished Guests of Honor including Maha Shaddeh, from Lebanon, Executive Director of Global Affairs at IIU; H.E. Ambassador Dr. Mehreen Mia, from S. Africa, President of the IIU Women Entrepreneurs Council, A H. E. Ambassador Dr. Srividhya Sukumar IIU Country Director for the United Arab Emirates ; and Shraddha Agarwal, from India, Executive of Administration, Marketing and Operations for Peeyush Group of Companies and Trust.
The event also spotlighted youth leadership through inspiring presentations from Amb. Azrah Mia, a member of the IIU Youth Council, and Christine Bassel Ajeeb, a high school student whose reflections underscored the importance of inclusion, empowering the next generation of changemakers.
Keynote presentations were delivered by internationally respected leaders including:
• Dr. Ona C. Miller, from the USA, Founder and CEO of the Global Female Civility Leadership Institute
• H.E. Ambassador Jeannette Matta, of Puerto Rico, Founder and CEO of The Unbreakable Women Global Leadership Movement
• Elif Selçuk of Türkiye, educator, author, TEDx speaker, and UN Global Schools Program Mentor, whose keynote, “Echoes of Malala: Writing a Future of Education, Empowerment, and Equality,” challenged participants to become architects of a more equitable future.
The conference also featured an exceptional lineup of global speakers, including:

Launch of the IIU–Mahila Declaration
One of the most significant outcomes of the conference was the unveiling of the IIU–Mahila Declaration: One Million Girls. One Million Opportunities.
The declaration establishes a shared commitment to expanding access to:

• Skills Development
• Mentorship
• Opportunity
• Leadership
• Dignity
• Independence
The initiative calls upon educators, institutions, governments, businesses, and civil society organizations to collaborate in creating pathways that empower girls to learn, lead, and succeed.
One Million Girls. One Million Opportunities. A Global Commitment. A Shared Future.
The declaration aligns with the long-term vision of Mahila Udyami Foundation and International Internship University to expand educational access and leadership opportunities for women and girls globally.
As the conference concluded, participants embraced a message that resonated throughout the event by Dr. Risha Bhargava, one of the speakers:
“Let us continue to be voices, not echoes.”
The phrase captured the spirit of Malala Day 2026 and the collective commitment of participants to transform inspiration into action.
Because every time a girl gains access to education, finds her voice, and is given an opportunity to lead, the future changes for all of us.
