𝑾𝑬𝑷 100 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝑩𝒖𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝑺𝒖𝒎𝒎𝒊𝒕 & 𝑨𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒔 2026 𝒄𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒔 𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒆𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔, 𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒑𝒐𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒐𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒆𝒓.

New Delhi, India — October 5, 2026 — Before a learner earns a certificate, someone helps them believe they can. Before a community gains a leader, someone creates an opportunity to learn. Behind those moments are teachers, mentors and changemakers whose influence often reaches far beyond the classroom.

That spirit brought participants together on October 5 for the WEP 100 World Builders Summit & Awards 2026. Held virtually and broadcast on the World Education Policy Facebook page, the gathering marked World Teachers’ Day by recognising educators, leaders and community builders whose work connects learning with opportunity.

The recognition brought together contributions across teaching, educational leadership, research, innovation, entrepreneurship and social impact. At the heart of the nomination process was the opportunity to bring that work into view: to recognise people whose dedication deserves attention and whose example can encourage others. The World Builder awards and Global Honorable Mentions offered distinct forms of recognition within a shared celebration of service.

Two distinguished honours gave the occasion a personal focus. Nebahat Çankırlı of Türkiye received the Teacher of the Year Award, recognising her dedication to education, inclusion and youth empowerment. An English language teacher at Gülüç İbrahim İzmirli Anadolu Lisesi, she connects classroom learning with international participation through Erasmus+ partnerships, Model United Nations and project-based learning. Her work helps students develop confidence, critical thinking and global awareness.

Dr. Patricia Gonde of Zimbabwe received the Lifetime Achievement Award, honouring more than 34 years of service to education. From beginning her teaching career in 1991 to becoming Head of Academics at Lusitania Primary School in Harare, her work reflects a sustained commitment to educational equity. Through Heartfelt Teachers Network Globally and Girls Leading Our World, she has also extended her influence to supporting educators and advancing opportunities for girls and women.

The World Builder trophy gives the recognition a visible expression. Its clear crystal evokes integrity, its many facets suggest the diversity of learners and communities, and its shield-like shape can be read as a responsibility to protect opportunity. The globe and laurels connect individual achievement with service to a shared world. Engraved beneath them, each recipient’s name makes that responsibility personal.

In her closing message, Dr. Rivera thanked the honourees, distinguished guests, speakers, Country Chief Officers and organising team on behalf of World Education Policy and its Trustee, Adv. Peeyush Pandit. She encouraged participants to carry the connections made during the gathering into continuing conversations, partnerships and opportunities for learners and communities.

“The challenge now is to carry recognition into practice. Teachers need support. Educational leaders need to take action. Policymakers must ensure everyone is included. That means listening to educators, strengthening their preparation, supporting their wellbeing and addressing the barriers that prevent learners from participating and succeeding.” Reiterated Dr. Rivera.

An award can make someone’s contribution visible. Its lasting significance lies in what that visibility encourages next: a teacher receiving needed support, an institution opening a door, or a learner gaining the chance to continue.
