The International Internship University (IIU) successfully hosted IIU LATAM 2026 – The Latin American Advantage, an inspiring international virtual conference that brought together renowned educators, entrepreneurs, diplomats, researchers, policymakers, and emerging leaders from across Latin America. Conducted entirely in Spanish, the event highlighted the region’s growing influence in education, innovation, entrepreneurship, and global leadership while creating a platform for meaningful collaboration beyond borders.
The conference opened with Dr. Ma. Elizabeth Islas León (Mexico), who warmly welcomed participants and introduced the vision behind IIU LATAM 2026. Delivering the opening address, Dr. Virginia Rivera (Puerto Rico), CEO of International Internship University, encouraged participants to embrace a new era of leadership built on knowledge, innovation, and international cooperation. She emphasized that Latin America’s greatest strength lies in the talent and determination of its people to transform challenges into opportunities.
Throughout the event, an outstanding lineup of speakers shared valuable perspectives on topics shaping the future of the region. Karin C. Rodríguez (Argentina) explored innovation and entrepreneurship as powerful drivers of sustainable growth, while Carolina Von Oertel (Argentina) inspired the audience with insights on Ikigai and purpose-driven leadership. Mr. Ruben Garcia (Peru) discussed the power of assertive communication in creating positive social change, and Ariana Onno (Spain) highlighted how human development can unlock Latin America’s global potential.
Environmental sustainability, education, and leadership also remained central themes. Prof. Dr. Ramón Hernández Chirinos de Jesús (Venezuela) addressed the relationship between environmental challenges and education, while Heydi Angelina Vela Armas (Guatemala) encouraged participants to recognize this moment as the right time to unlock talent and embrace innovation. María Fernanda Gualotuña (Mexico) and Paola Beatriz Bertoldi Hernández (Argentina) emphasized the importance of educational transformation and empowering individuals to create global impact.
One of the conference’s highlights was the special keynote by H.E. Ambassador Jeannette Matta (Puerto Rico), who spoke passionately about women’s leadership and human rights as essential pillars for building stronger and more inclusive societies. Gonzalo Ponce (Argentina) reinforced the role of education in driving social progress, while Karen Bruges (Colombia) presented the importance of systems that protect human dignity through initiatives such as the Amber Alert. The conference concluded its speaker sessions with Dr. Juan José Gigliotti (Argentina), who emphasized that education and human development remain the strongest foundations for Latin America’s future success.
In her closing remarks, Dr. Virginia Rivera thanked every speaker and participant for contributing to what she described as the beginning of a long-term international movement. She invited everyone to continue building partnerships through the growing IIU global network and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to empowering leaders who can make a positive difference in their communities and beyond.
